week 12 individual reflection

I had difficulties finding the right kind of seeds to plant. There was also the issue of the time the seeds needed to start germinating. At first our group member,Darren ,complained that the seeds were taking too long to germinate. But eventually they did and they started growing well.

I supplied the equipment we would need to hang the plants(e.g wire,pliers). I also got rid of the weeds that were growing around the place we decided to hang our plants.

Summary

Making use of unused space for agriculture using recycled materials

When making our prototype of Lady's finger plant, first we planted the lady's finger seeds to allow it to germinate. Once it germinates, we first get recycled 1Litre water bottles (Mineral bottles etc.) Then, we cut one portion of the front and back of the water bottle. Use a cloth where water can seep out and cover one side of the cut sides to allow excess water to seep through. Then, add soil and plant your plant inside. Then, we used wires to tie the plant to a fence, as lady's finger is a climbing plant, the lady's finger plant will grow and “climb” up the fence. And in addition, the fence is an unused space, where the plants can “climb” up in peace, without getting disturbed.

week 11 reflection

The lady's finger we have planted has made progress and has started growing. Its stem is curling towards the fence where we are growing it when we paid it a little visit today. The plant has been watered and weeds around it have been cut. The worksheet for this week has been done by the group.

Week 11 reflection

Progress:We have already hung 2 1.5 litre bottles filled with soil and plants onto the fence in a place in the school. Right now we are waiting to see if they will survive or die,but they have started twining themselves around the fence the last time we checked so they should do alright although the soil is drier than its supposed to be.

What I know about my project product:It is a twining,climbing kind of plant which twines its stem or tendrils around supports to grow.

What you think the direction your group should be taking:We should start growing more plants,and start work and research on the effect our product will have.

What you would be doing to improve on the product:We are still thinking about that.
